Everyone needs to look after their bag.
There are 2 types of handbags - those that carry the essentials, and those that carry everything including the Kitchen Sink. I admit that I carry not only the Kitchen sink, but half the house with it.
So hands up. When was the last time you honestly took the plunge and dared to look into the depths of your bag? For those of us that like to be prepared, here are a few tips on how to organise your bag so that it is easy to find what you want, when you want it.
Step 1: Empty it out. This may sound obvious, but take every single thing, out of every single pocket - including all the old receipts, hairbands, old chewing gum, and odd change that are lurking in the bottom.
Step 2: Shake it out. No matter how careful you think you are, dirt and debris can collect in the bottom of your bag. So grab yourself a brush or your small hoover attachment, and get to cleaning out all the nooks and crannies.
Step 3: Give it a good Clean. Make sure you always follow the manufacturers recommendations, but a clean soft cloth and either some polish/water/leather protector will help you remove any stains on the outside of your bag.
Step 4: Time to be honest. Carrying everything just in case, can lead to a heavy, unorganised, messy bag. Just because you needed it once, have you needed it since? No? well, get rid of it! Do you really need 4 of the same thing? probably not - 1 is plenty - so sort through what you emptied out of your bag.......
Step 5: Find new homes for the things you don't need. If you don't need it, either find it a new home or throw it away! By clearing out the clutter and cleaning things, we are making space for new energy, and we are allowing ourselves to feel our best. Be prepared, but keep it to a minimum. If you really need to have something, think: does it need to be in my handbag or can it live in a pouch in my car? or maybe in a draw at work? Can it go in my Gym Bag?(but that's another blog post)
Step 6: Put it all back together. By using small pouches (yes we sell a few different types), or make up bags, we can keep things together, and know that they will be easy to find when we are in need of them. Ie: put your make up bits, hygiene products, tissues etc all together. You may also want to investigate Bag organisers. Smaller bags that can be put into the bottom of your bag to keep everything tidy (hint: we sell 2 different types)
Step 7: Have you got everything? It will feel empty, which may feel strange, but make sure you've got all the essentials. Purse, Keys, Phone, whatever you feel is necessary, make sure you don't forget it. There is nothing more frustrating than going to get something and realising its not there.
By making your bag lighter you'll not only will you feel accomplished, but you'll help your posture, making you feel healthier, and less weighed down by things you no longer need.
